Energy
Many countries and businesses have set wide-ranging climate protection goals that aim to limit the global temperature increase. An important part of this ambitious agenda is the shift away from fossil fuels to renewable energies. The development and expansion of those energies has been swift but it still might not be significant enough. In this section we will analyse the most pressing questions of the transition towards renewable energies and how this will affect energy security around the world.
Can Power-to-X Pave the Way to a Carbon-Free Future?
Renewable energy capacity poses major challenge
As businesses and governments are looking into alternative energy sources to replace fossil fuels, Power-to-X is emerging as a promising technology. Green hydrogen, an end product of Power-to-X could be a promising solution for those industries that require temperatures for their production processes that electricity is not able to generate. However, Power-to-X requires large amounts of renewable energies to power the electrolysis. This analysis will focus both on the availability of renewable energy capacity and how Power-to-X will compete with other sectors over that capacity.
